i heart the skirball {new portfolio}

Recently, I've talked about how difficult it can be to make time for updating my portfolios. Well, I was so thrilled with my newest portfolio, that I just had to design another one, and pronto. Again, I'm in love with the results. Here is a glimpse of what is to come.

I adore the stone colored linen spine juxtaposed with this cover image.

I absolutely love photographing weddings at the Skirball Cultural Center; and I'm hoping to book more weddings there this year. Just look at this stunning elegance.

Okay, so that most likely qualifies as more than a glance. What can I say? I love to share my work. Want to see the whole kit and kaboodle? Take a gander at this preview option with Couture Book. A big thank you to Margaret and David (the beautiful couple)!

New Wedding Portfolio {Has Arrived}

I love checking the mailbox, even though it is usually just bills waiting on me, to bring them in and out of the cold. The occasional magazine always makes me happy, but when I get a package... look out! I'm like a kid on Christmas morning. Everything is on hold until that package is opened. I even take great care to keep my box cutter in special place, so I'm not wasting time looking for something to open the box with.

So when I received my new wedding portfolio, I was over the moon! I think it turned out so beautiful! It is the Modern Book offered through Pictage.com. In case you don't know, Pictage is the awesome online gallery and lab, where my clients place all of their print and album orders.

Loving this hardback cover, with ImageWrap.

I love all the different layout options. Good use of different layouts throughout the book, keeps the story flowing. Keep in mind, I always offer free album design service to my clients.

Dogs Will Be Dogs {Arlington, VA}

Nanci never set out to own three dogs; but now, I don't think she could have it any other way. She is the kind of caring person that people reach out to with their unwanted dogs. Lucky for Harry, Bandit, and Brandy, she is the kind of caring person that reaches back to help. Of course, these pooches give Nanci lots of love with plenty of slobbery kisses to prove it.

I adore photographing pets, as it is always an adventure! While this canine crew may look peaceful, in some of these photographs, I can assure you they barely stood still, for more than a second, at a time. They had me running in circles, as their sensitive ears, noses, and eyes told them there was always something to check out... through the window, in the backyard, or even the already familiar (i.e. each others' bottoms). Of course, by the end of the photo session, Harry, Bandit, Brandy and I were all quite smitten with each other.

Please, enjoy this little slide show.

Now Nanci, don't forget to coerce all of your friends, co-workers and even strangers to leave their comments. We've got a long way to go to the finish line of our Cans for Comments contest that could win you an 8x10, and has me delivering canned goods to the food bank.

Jen and John {Alexandria, VA}

My shutter speed was around 1/60 of a second, and yet look at all of the romance this single photo possesses... love it!

Here is a sweet slide show from my uber fun photo session with these two lovebirds... and be sure to take note of their endearing dog Bear, who loves himself a little stuffed pony.

Don't forget to leave your kind comments :) Just as a reminder, at the end of March, the slide show with the most comments wins a free 8x10; and I haul a tall stack of canned goods to my local food bank. Click here for more details.

Jen & John {sneak peek}

Washington DC was very very good to me. Now that I am back in New York, I'm busy editing my two DC photo sessions. This image from Jen and John's shoot caught my attention.

Take a look at Jen's gorgeous eyes peeking through her hair. Aren't they a cute couple?

I'll be posting more soon.

January 20, 2009 {Yes I Did}

On our way to the Inauguration, my sister and I walked across a bridge via Georgetown. Although the sun was not up yet, when I saw the Washington Monument in the distance, I knew it was going to be a great day!

This is a three generational family that traveled from Tampa, Florida to witness this historic day together. I just love this photo!

I don't know exactly how many people gathered in DC, but it was a lot! I'm exhausted, and it is hard for me to tap out profound words at this hour, but the day was awe-inspiring. People were dancing, singing, praying, crying, and we saw thousands of smiles!

I just love the Washington Monument!

Road trip with Mom {Washington D.C.}

Despite the very cold weather, on Saturday, my mom and I packed her car up for a road trip to Washington DC, where she will spend a few months with my sister Noele.

I think Sunday's brunch, at this super yummy french cafe, is a good indicator that my Mom and sister are going to have a great time this winter. Here is Noele and my mom... I'm loving the family fun on this trip!

spreading the word {for the cure}

I recently became familiar with the work of Emilie Somner of emilie inc. She is not only a stellar photographer, but an inspiring community leader as well. So it is with great honor that I announce that I am a "Wedding Photographer Sponsor" for her breast cancer awareness organization called Pink Initiative.

The exciting news for engaged couples is the generous raffle the Pink Initiative is offering! From now through Valentine's Day, you can purchase a raffle ticket to win a $5,000.00 wedding photography package by emilie inc. Now that is what I call paying it forward!

We are all hoping to find a cure to this nasty disease, so be sure to click on the ad below to buy your ticket, and help emilie inc. campaign for change!

Holiday Thanks!

I always have so much to be thankful for. In addition to my health, new home, family and friends, this holiday season, I am very grateful for my wonderful clients of 2008! Thank you so much for your kindness and friendship! Your sweet notes and gifts of thanks have truly warmed my heart.

I hope you all enjoy your holiday gift this year. I took the liberty of hanging your ornaments on my tree for a little photo session before packing them up... can you find your photo?

Happy Holidays!!

My New Wedding Postcard {by Creative Blu}

A couple of years ago, I became fast friends with the extremely talented and very funny Michelle Arnett of Creative Blu. Since then, I've had Michelle design all of my promotional materials and magazine advertisements.

I just love this latest wedding postcard she created for me. Thank you Michelle!

Michelle's design studio creates custom invitations, that can drop your jaw with their beauty and detail. If you need invitations, Michelle is your gal!

I was so thrilled when Michelle asked me to photograph a portrait of her for Creative Blu's website. Here is one of my favorite outtakes, from her photo session.

Abby's Semi-Formal

Last night, my beautiful niece, Abby, had her semi-formal high school dance. I thought it was so sweet that she asked me to come and take a few snaps of her and her friends. They all looked so great, and seemed like such a fun group.

Pay It Forward Pledge for 2009

Yesterday, I posted wedding photographs from Margaret and David's beautiful event! Today, I want to share more information about their rescue and volunteer work with a very important organization called RAVS (Rural Aarea Veterinary Services), which is run by the Humane Society of the United States. This heroic group of professionals provide free spay/neuter clinics and basic veterinary care to our nation's rural communities (mostly Indian Reservations), where many animals are unable to receive the medical care they need.

Poor Franny (the dog I adopted) was in bad shape when Margaret had first rescued her. She was malnourished, and suffering from a couple of life threatening diseases. Margaret literally saved Franny's life!

In the spirit of holiday giving, I'm going to pledge 5 percent of my 2009 wedding sales to this cause. I hope you will consider joining me, and donating to RAV, as they are always in need of volunteers and financial support to help our country's neediest animals!

Look at Franny now. She is healthy and very happy! She loves her new home, backyard, and is very gentle and playful with Lulu and Darla, my two smaller dogs.

Here is a picture of me and the dogs that my friend Michael Sexton took with his iPhone.

Margaret and David {Los Angeles, CA}

Margaret is an amazing veterinarian. I originally met her, after I adopted a dog that Margaret had rescued from an Indian Reservation, in Arizona. I was so happy when she asked me to photograph her wedding! It was great to meet David (also a veterinarian). They first met while studying their profession... very cool!

Margaret sure is a beautiful bride!

Here is Margaret and David's first peek at each other on their wedding day.

Margaret and David had their wedding at the very elegant Skirball Cultural Center, in Los Angeles, CA, with amazing flowers designed by the talented florists at City of Commerce Flowers! Tricia of Porras Event Consulting did a wonderful job of making sure every detail was in place, and kept the day running smoothly.

This crowd puts the "party" in Bridal Party!

Another beautiful flower arrangement; and look at this gorgeous cake by Cake Crumbs!

The Nelsons {Phoenix, NY}

In addition to cutting down their own Christmas Tree, The Nelsons decided to add a family portrait session to this year's adventure. We drove out to Goodmans Christmas Tree Farm where they have 65 acres of tress to choose from! It was very cold, but oh so much fun!

Here is a little slide show of our fantastic day!

New Wedding Portfolio

It is difficult to take the time to keep my portfolios updated with current work. That is why I'm so thrilled to have designed a sample album from a recent wedding. I won't actually receive the finished product for a couple of months. I'm so excited, however, that I couldn't wait to share the cover with you. I just love it!

Darla's First Blizzard

We are having a real snow storm today! It's the first one Darla, my pomeranian puppy, has experienced. Franny loves to play in the snow, and it seems that Darla is right in there with her. Even Lulu, the pug, joined in a little game of chase today!

I'm hoping this is an indicator for a White Christmas in New York! I think I'll put on some Christmas music and make a warm cup of tea or hot cocoa... mmmmmm.
